Stupid Broken Toe

Wednesday evening I intended to gracefully saunter down the stairs after giving Brady a bath. My intentions were halted when out of the blue my dog darted in front of me. I tripped over her and plummeted down the staircase... every single step. I tried my best to stop myself but my attempts only resulted in carpet burn up and down my entire right arm. Consequently I broke my toe. Who breaks their toe falling down stairs? For the next 2-6 weeks I must say farewell to my high-heeled footwear. I was shocked to realize that I only owned 2 pairs of shoes that did not have heels, and they were both tennis shoes. Imagine Thursday morning when I woke up to realize that I couldn't wear heels to work on a dress up day and I didn’t possess one pair of flat dress shoes. Visualize me showing up to work in nice dress slacks, a blazer, and… tennis shoes gimping around. I had to purchase a pair of comfy ballet flats (pictured below) to wear for the next few weeks.

They are super cute but I‘m already pining for my heels. I may need to join a support group for high-heel withdrawals. On a side note: my toe hurts, it looks completely disgusting, and it is utterly annoying.

A Woman’s Intuition: A Conversation between Sheila and Tony

Sheila: “What would you do with a million dollars?”

(I fully expected Tony to reply with some sort of strategy to acquire massive quantities of uber fast motorcycles and cars and then devise a scheme to race both of them all while becoming a legend.)

Tony: “I think I would like to volunteer.”

(I was touched. Clearly I misjudged my husband. I hung my head in shame.)

Sheila: “What cause would you like to be involved with?”

(Tony mischievously smirked.)

Tony: “The track….”

(I made a valiant attempt to keep a straight face. I failed and initiated laughter.)

Yes, he was referring to the race track. Moral of the story: A woman should always trust her instincts and a man, at least this man, will always have a teenage boy lurking inside craving the need for speed.

The Journey to Womanhood

It is a day every girl looks forward to. When this day comes, the girl’s life is forever changed. For better or for worse now begins the journey to womanhood. Many may find it peculiar that I am dedicating a post to this day in Alex’s life. It’s a beautiful thing that should be properly recognized by all. The day I am referring to is, of course, a girl’s first… ROCK CONCERT. I remember my first rock concert well. I was 13 years old in the upper bowl where the acoustics were dreadful, rocking out to the Smashing Pumpkins. It was the best. Alex’s day came last night at the tender age of 12, rocking out to Royal Bliss. She was so stoked. She was even lucky enough to have Jenn, Katrina, and me there with her.

Urban Emo Grunge

Emo... who are we kidding? We are at trio of dorks!

It was a perfect night. I have absolutely not complaints. For example, I wouldn’t complain that it was advertised that the doors would open at 6:00 pm and we waited out in the cold until 7:30 pm when they finally let people in. I also wouldn’t complain that once we were inside the temperature was maybe 5 degrees warmer than it was outside. Furthermore, I wouldn’t complain the bathrooms were so incredibly disgusting that I was considering popping a squat in the alleyway behind the building and risking public humiliation just so I wouldn’t have to hover over a portal to hell, a.k.a. the toilets at this fine establishment. On that note, I wouldn’t complain that there were so many people smoking that we left smelling like an ashtray. In addition, I wouldn’t complain that I was under the impression that the concert would be over by 9 pm and we didn’t end up getting home until 1:45 am. Moreover, I wouldn’t complain that I made the foolish decision to wear 4-inch stiletto boots that I stood in for over 6 hours and that my feet were almost completely numb by the end of the night. In my defense, beauty is pain. Stephen Dunn put it eloquently when he wrote, “Oh vanity makes everything a little lovelier.”

In conclusion, it was a rock concert. The music was good and Alex had a blast. She even had the honor to meet the lead singer and guitar player after the show. It is a memory she will always keep with her and I am happy I was able to be a part of it.

Decades Day

Last week Alex’s school had a “Decades Day”. Alex decided to dress from the 80’s and put a modern twist on it. The pictures speak for themselves; she looked incredibly awesome. You may notice that she has approximately 10 inches of hair missing. She got a haircut and donated her tendrils to Locks of Love. I LOVE the style of her hair. It fits her punk personality perfectly. The other day when I picked her up from play practice she told me that she and her friends saw some cute boys and decided to give them nicknames. I had to laugh. Why? Because my friends and I did the exact same thing when we were in 7th grade. I went home and brushed off the dust from my 1995-1996 journals to reminisce what clever handles we selected for our crushes. Warning: If you weren’t one of my friends in 7th grade the remaining information in this post will not be in the least bit compelling or make any sense whatsoever. (Charlyn, Heather, and Krissey should get a kick out of this.) There was Blondie, Hair Boy, Kilometer, and… (drum roll please)…. Hot Fudge Sunday! Yes, Hot Fudge had all of us swooning. We even developed a logo for him. All I can say is the times change but girls will always be girls.

Hair Today... Gone in 28 Washes

Brady has some seriously crazy hair. It definitely has a mind of it's own. I think it may be time for a hair cut.
On the subject of hair, a few weeks ago (December 30th to be exact) I decided to take the plunge and (gulp) dye my hair for the first time ever. It was almost a new year, time to be reckless, have some fun, and try something out of the ordinary. First off, I would like to point out that coloring ones own hair is not a simple task. It was a ginormous pain in the buttocks. I didn't want too drastic of a change so I went with a dark auburn color. The end result is in the image below:

So... I think I look totally different. What do other people think??? The ONLY person that noticed I colored my hair was Alex. Tony of course was aware that I was coloring my hair, but not one other person I have seen since has said anything about it. This means that I am:
a. So completely anti-social that when I do go into public people think: "I haven't seen her for a long time... her hair must have always been that color. What is she doing out and about anyways? Shouldn't she be home barefoot in the kitchen cooking and making more babies?"
b. I am crazy. It is all in my head that my appearance is utterly altered. The change was so subtle that I can't possibly expect normal human eyes to notice.
c. I look so different that people don't recognize me when they see me. They just smile and nod while trying to figure out how they know me.
I think it's option "c";) I was too much of a coward to choose a permanent hair color, so this is only semi-permanent. In approximately 28 washes I will be back to my natural self.

I've been tagged!

I've been tagged! The rules are that you list 6 facts/habits about yourself then at the end of the post name 6 people that you are going to tag, then they do it...

Here I go...

One.
I find stiletto heels and dangly earrings absolutely irresistible. If I’m having a rough day and feeling a bit frumpy all I have to do is throw on a pair of 4 inch heels and some earrings that dangle and sparkle and then suddenly I can conquer the world and am one sexy momma!
Two.
Speaking of heels, I love to sport a pair and go out dancing with my husband on a Saturday night. Nothing beats a night on the town with a handsome man while working up a good sweat and having a good time.
Three.
I am in love with Target. I could seriously live at this store! Yep, I am the Target Queen. What is there not to like… fabulous clothes, shoes, handbags, home decor, and jewelry... all at a reasonable price! I could spend hours just looking around.
Four.
I have a passion for writing and hope to be published one day. I love to write poems, dark artsy ones that don’t rhyme. I’m also in the process of writing a novel that is semi autobiographical. At the current rate I am going I figure I will be done with it in about 5 or 10 years. Once it's completed keep an eye out for it on the best sellers list;)
Five.
I’m a witch!? I recently read Wicked and must have identified a bit too closely with Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, because now my husband is convinced that I am a witch. He has heard the tales of my eccentric mom and has come to the conclusion that being a witch is a birth right that has passed down though my bloodline for generations. He says it makes sense really and that I make a good witch. Did I mention my husband has a vivid imagination? Yes honey, it is all in your head… or is it? Hehehe.
Six.
When I was growing up my mom always told me that if I wanted to have big boobs when I was older that I needed to make sure to eat lots of red licorice. As a result I consumed massive amounts of red licorice as a youngster. Did it work? You tell me.

That’s me, now I tag… you! That’s right if you are reading this then you are tagged! (And by you I am going to specify that at least Katie has to do this because she is the most awesomest sister in the world!)
